about
Wasted potential is my home on the world wide interweb (thanks Al Gore!). My name is Andy Watt. I am a Flash and web developer working in Atlanta, GA. This blog is the third incarnation of wasted potential. I’m not a writer, so creating ablog is a bit strange, but there are two simple reasons for it:
#1 The selfless reason: I work as a interactive developer for Toolbox No. 9, an amazing company. I love my job, but it is a challenge to keep up with the latest technology. I need to be proficient at HTML, CSS, Flash (Actionscript 2 and 3), javascript, PHP, mySQL… the list is practically endless. And that doesn’t include the production work that requires me to know how to do illustration, photo manipulation, video editing and sound editing. My job would be practically impossible if not for the generous nature of others who have shared their wisdom on forums and blogs all over the web. Wasted potential is my opportunity to contribute to that knowledge base. I hope to provide a few time-saving solutions to problems faced by web and flash developers. These solutions may be in the form of tutorials, code samples or just links to really useful info. I hope to help other web developers in the same way that I have been helped.
#2 The petty, childish reason: I want to regain the number one spot in Google when people search for “wasted potential.” I have been working under the name wasted potential for over ten years. It has been an umbrella for all of my projects. I have published independent comics under the name wasted potential and I have designed t-shirts under the name wasted potential. Recently, two different websites have taken over my Google rankings. One of them is an independent comic artist. The other is a t-shirt design company. This irritates me and I wish to put them in their respective places. So with some helpful info and a little luck, I hope to be #1 again soon.
So that’s it. If you want to know more about me, you can read my outdated resume here. Otherwise, check out the blog. Anything I want you to know is probably there.
Thanks,
Andy
